Welcome To CSF – Ouest Aquitaine
Cancer Support France Ouest Aquitaine belongs to a national network of associations in France, supporting people affected by cancer who would like to receive support in English.
Ouest Aquitaine operates primarily across the Charente-Maritime and the Gironde area. Our role is simple but important: we provide support in English, regardless of a person’s nationality and regardless of the type of cancer.
A cancer diagnosis is already a difficult experience. When you are living in another country and have to navigate the healthcare system, appointments and treatments in another language, you can feel particularly alone.
Our support is completely free and confidential.
Our trained volunteers, known as Active Listeners, are there to listen and provide emotional and linguistic support, without judgement.
We support not only the person with cancer, but also their partners, families, relatives and carers. The support depends on each person’s needs. It can be provided by telephone, by message or, where possible, in person.
Active Listeners can provide language support and accompany clients during a medical appointment. We can also direct people towards reliable sources of information and other organisations that may help them.
Our Active Listeners do not provide medical advice. Their role is to listen, to support and to help people feel less alone as they face cancer. Referrals to the local association of Ouest Aquitaine are made via our English-language National Helpline, either by telephone or by email. It responds to requests for information and puts people who need individual support in contact with their local association.
